This video shows a recent eruption that occurred in Japan.  I like showing this volcano video because it shows the eruption at night where you can see the lava bombs break open when they hit the ground.  It also show lightning that sometimes if visible during volcano eruptions.

I show this volcano movie discussing and teaching about Yellowstone past eruptive periods. This video is a fictional docudrama that is very well done.  The science for the most part is accurate and while filming the movie that had real volcanologists available for questions.  The movie demonstrates how earthquake swarms can precede volcanic eruptions.  Students usually have many questions and want to discuss the what ifs of the movie.  Pyroclastic clouds are seen in the video as well as a lake tsunami called a seiche.

This is a short video that does a good job describing the Yellowstone Supervolcano. It does a great job show the potential of large magma chambers.  This volcano video will also talk about how much ash can fall in some places after very large eruptions.

In this volcano video, students will be able to see a many climb up Krakatoa's child, Anak.  I find this video fascinating because it vividly shows the results of recent volcanic activity.  Your students will be able to witness what fine ash looks like and how fragments are ejected from the volcano.  I show this video right after I show the Krakatoa The Last Days movie.

This is a full length movie about the famous volcanic eruption of Krakatoa.  It is a docudrama of real people who survived the the volcanic eruption.  It did a great job showing how the collapse of Krakatoa caused an extremely large tsunami.  It also shows how powerful and destructive a pyroclastic cloud can be.  Other features of the video are strange lights in the ash cloud and how ash can tip over a ship.

I show this video during my unit on volcanoes when discussing the two Hawaiian volcano flow types, Pahoehoe and aa lavas.  It shows both very well and I have the students shout out what type as the video plays.  There is also a great view as to what a shield volcano looks like so I pause it at that point to discuss why a shield volcano takes on the shape that it does.  I also talk about the cooling of the lava and how it hardens and turns into solid basalt.
