How Far Can you Run Text Structures Game

In this reading game, students will jump a character as it runs through an obstacle course.  If the student misses a jump, a text structure reading question will appear.  If the student answers the question correctly he/she will be able to continue.  The question is missed, the character loses a try.  Three tries lost, ends the game. After every mile the speed increases.  The goal is to run 10 miles without missing three questions. Structures asked about are: Sequence, Compare and Contrast, Problem/Solution, Cause/Effect, Description, Chronology/Timeline

Earth Science: Understanding Glaciers Lab

This is an interactive digital glacier lab that will help students understand what glaciers are, what some of the formations and deposits look like, and will have students explore how glaciers grow and shrink, and how scientists go about discovering glacial movement speeds over time as well as finding out how scientists come up with the numbers of how long glaciers will last at current rates. Students will actually be the scientists discovering the rate of speed as they build their own interactive glacier using PhET. You will need computers that can run Java.

EarthScience.xyz is a website that teaches earth science to students.  It is a step-by-step book containing all the information needed to learn about the Earth.  Teachers can have access to all the labs and assignments that are taught at Snowflake High School.  There are tons of high-quality graphics, animation, and videos that will make presenting geology, meteorology, oceanography, paleontology, and astronomy to students engaging and fun.

Current USGS Significant Worldwide Earthquake Investigation

In this Earth Science Earthquake activity, students will explore the USGS current earthquake website. Students will understand what is to be found on the USGS Earthquake website. They will discover how many earthquakes have occurred recently. Students will gain an understanding of what the Mercalli Intensity Scale is used for. Students will discover the 5 largest recent earthquakes that have occurred around the world. They will gain a better understanding of geography as well by using maps and map scales to determine distances from an earthquake epicenter.

Author's Purpose Reading Game

Third-grade reading game for students who need to practice and reinforce the Author's Purpose as well as reinforce their multiplication skills. Students will collect all the jewels in 15 minutes.  If a bee stings the student, the student will need to answer a multiplication math fact.  If a student collects a Jewell, he/she will need to answer the author's purpose for writing the passage.
