Commutative Property of Addition Using Skittles

Generate equivalent expressions using two additive properties. This video focuses on using the associative and commutative properties of addition to combine like terms, simplify expressions, and create equivalent expressions.  Change the sign to multiplication and you can use this for the properties of multiplication as well.

Watch the properties of addition and multiplication in action.

3 Digit Addition Practice Tool

This math tool is a fantastic way for students to practice their three-digit addition skills. With just the click of a button, two random three-digit numbers are generated, providing students with a new set of problems each time they use it. The tool is smartboard friendly, with large buttons that make it easy to use for students of all ages. With regular practice, students will become more confident in their addition abilities, improving their math skills overall.

Money Word Problems

I use this money word problem worksheet as a relay.  Students get one card out of a stack of word problems that I laminate.  They then rush with a partner to answer the word problem.  If they get it right, I give them the next card in the stack.  If they get it wrong they go back to their desk and try to resolve the word problem.  After 20 minutes, which ever team answers the most question correctly wins.  It is pretty competitive.
