Marble Physics

Students will be engaged in hands-on experimentation and discover the principles of motion and collision through a series of captivating lab exercises.

Lab Setup: To begin, set up the lab by placing one end of the track on two reading books and the other end on a pencil, creating a slanted track. The angle of the track will determine the direction of the marble movement.

Pond Water Lab

In this lab, you will be exploring the organisms present in pond water. Add leaves and grasses to your pond water. Students will observe and document the organisms found in the water over a two-week period. Additionally, they will analyze the data, calculate rates of organism increase, create a function, and make predictions about future organism populations.

Money Word Problems

I use this money word problem worksheet as a relay.  Students get one card out of a stack of word problems that I laminate.  They then rush with a partner to answer the word problem.  If they get it right, I give them the next card in the stack.  If they get it wrong they go back to their desk and try to resolve the word problem.  After 20 minutes, which ever team answers the most question correctly wins.  It is pretty competitive.

Students Learn to Read a Ruler with this Game

When my 3rd-grade students are learning to read measurements to the quarter inch, I use this game.  Most kids get really into it.  As students get the measurement correct, the timer goes faster and faster.  You can change the settings to display rulers that measure just the inch, half inch, quarter inch, sixteenth inch, thirty-two seconds of an inch, and even sixty-four seconds of an inch.

A Practice in Using a Ruler to Measure to the Nearest Quarter Inch

Introducing our customizable and interactive hands-on math lab activity: "Measure Up Math Lab!" This is designed for students to explore the measuring to the nearest 1/4 inch in a fun and tailored way.

In "Measure Up Math Lab," students will use a ruler to measure common classroom items and their neighbor's finger and thumb. This lab apart is customizable because it's made in Google Docs, allowing teachers to easily customize the activity by adding their own items to be measured. This flexibility ensures that the lab aligns perfectly with the unique needs of each classroom.
