Area Arrays by Tiling Game • Grade 3 (3.MD.C.7a) is an interactive, game-style math activity that helps students understand area as the total number of unit squares in a rectangle. In each round, students work with rows and columns (arrays) to connect visual models to multiplication.
Students complete two types of challenges:
- Write the number sentence for a displayed array (example: 3 Ă— 4 = 12).
- Build a rectangle by shading tiles to match a target area, reinforcing that different dimensions can create the same total area.
The activity provides instant feedback, keeps score, and includes quick review support when a student misses a question by showing the correct array and equation.
