Literal vs. nonliteral figurative language 3rd grade worksheet

In this 3rd-grade worksheet, students will read a sentence and then decide whether it is talking about something literal or something nonliteral.  If it is nonliteral, students will then write what the interpretation of the figurative language should actually be; what the sentence actually means.

Purchasing this worksheet through Teachers Pay Teachers also gives you the ability to assign the worksheet digitally which will self-grade the activity.

In this compare and contrast activity, students will read two articles or two books, or watch two short Youtube videos about two animals.  Students will then compare and contrast the two animals, finding differences and similarities.  This is a great assignment to bring science and biology into the reading classroom.

I use either Youtube videos or short books found on GetEpic. (GetEpic is a free reading program with thousands of free, fully colored books.)

Don't Talk to strangers cloze reading text image

In this reading activity designed for 3rd graders, students will read a couple of paragraphs with 19 missing words.  Students have a word list they get to choose from to fill in the blanks in order to make the sentences sound good and be accurate.  Many of the words come from Saxon Phonics lesson 6 for 3rd grade.

The reading centers around being careful around strangers and the danger there is when talking to them.
