5 Paragraph Expository Text Brainstorming Sheet

I designed this 5 paragraph expository text writing organizer to help my 3rd graders have space to restate the prompt, come up with three big ideas or main ideas, add details as well as cite text evidence and then create a conclusion paragraph.  This has been very beneficial to my teaching nonfiction text writing.

Image

simple similes and meaningful metaphors

In this activity students take simple sentences and use metaphors and similes to enhance their sentences, making them more interesting, entertaining, and more meaningful. Students will become more familiar with what a simile and a metaphor are.

Student names are in bold so that teachers can easily see them and replace them with their own student names. This makes is more engaging and fun as well.

If you would like to purchase the Google Doc version which allows you to insert your own student names please visit the following link on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Triple Digit Addition Generator

This is a random three-digit subtraction generator that is

Smartboard friendly, with big buttons. Click the reset values button and the program will generate two 3-digit numbers that students can use to reinforce their ability to subtract.  I use this program to generate subtraction questions and students can use whiteboards to solve the answer.  This can also be used to play games like king of the row or relay races.

Mapping useful ores on world map image

In this assignment, students will open up a Google Doc, you can have it printed as well, and fill out a table of some very useful industrial ores. The ores that will be researched are diamonds, gold, rock salt, bauxite, iron, and titanium. Students will research which 3 countries in the world are the top producers of each ore. They will then find and write 2 or more industrial uses for each ore. As they are doing their research, students will also use a map and mark where these countries are. This is great to reinforce the geography standards.
