In this activity, you'll set up your classroom with several different-sized graduated cylinders displayed on a table. Surrounding them are 10 containers of various shapes and sizes – cups, sponges, measuring cups, soda mugs, and more.

 

Here's how the activity unfolds:

  1. Pick up a container and let the students describe it. Encourage them to estimate how many milliliters it will take to fill it.
  2. Fill the chosen container with water and pour it into the appropriate graduated cylinder to obtain an accurate measurement.
  3. Invite a random student to come up, read the graduated cylinder, and share the measured amount with the class.
  4. All students write down the measured amount in the "Actual Amount" column.
  5. Students subtract their initial estimate from the measured amount to calculate the difference.
  6. Identify students with the most accurate estimates and celebrate their achievement with cheers and positive reinforcement, creating an encouraging and fun learning environment.
