simple similes and meaningful metaphors

In this activity students take simple sentences and use metaphors and similes to enhance their sentences, making them more interesting, entertaining, and more meaningful. Students will become more familiar with what a simile and a metaphor are.

Student names are in bold so that teachers can easily see them and replace them with their own student names. This makes is more engaging and fun as well.

If you would like to purchase the Google Doc version which allows you to insert your own student names please visit the following link on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Multiplication Fact Family Dice Game

In this 3rd grade math activity students partner up. Each has their own paper. They each roll a dice and put the number in the first cell under roll 1. Next they roll again and put the second number under roll 2. They now create a multiplication equation using the 2 dice. They then create a division equation using the two dice. Finally they fill out the fact family triangle. At the end they add up all of their dice and whichever student has the highest sum takes the win.

Smartboard friendly, with big buttons. Click the reset values button and the program will generate two 3-digit numbers that students can use to reinforce their ability to subtract.  I use this program to generate subtraction questions and students can use whiteboards to solve the answer.  This can also be used to play games like king of the row or relay races.

Author's Purpose Card and Board Game

This author's purpose game was designed with 3rd through 5th graders in mind. The cards can be printed front to back and then laminated. I use six of these games to split my class into 6 different groups. Included is a snakes and ladders board game with a March and St. Patrick's Day. If this author's purpose is taught in a different month than this, please use any old game board.
